Insight-oriented Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

With foundations in psychoanalysis and attachment based literature, we specialize in psychodynamic therapy. In psychodynamic therapy we appreciate the role and importance of the relationship that develops between us as a mirror and window into other relationships, attachments and as a vehicle for change. 

We think about how implicit experiences and emotions might be contributing to our reactions or emotions and we challenge automatic thought and behavior patterns in the journey toward change. 

In each session we create a space to be purposeful, real and honest with ourselves to work toward living the life that you want to be living.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT empowers you to identify and challenge negative thought patterns that might be hindering your well-being. By learning new coping skills, you'll develop healthier ways of thinking and feeling.

This research-based therapy tackles a wide range of mental health challenges that can impact daily life. We'll work together to understand your current struggles, set goals, and explore any underlying factors contributing to them.

To reinforce your progress, you might receive personalized exercises or activities to practice the skills learned in our sessions.

Building Resilience

We integrate elements of positive psychology into clinical practice. While we treat symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety, we also focus on cultivating each individual's unique strengths. 

In addition to treating mental health symptoms, we focus more holistically on well-being, kindness, optimism, morality, virtue, love and self-actualization. We appreciate that it is not just the information that goes in, but also the shape, the interpretation, the focus that often matters a lot more than the information itself. 

The goal in taking this approach is ultimately the development of the fullest height that each individual can come to, helping each person become the best version of themselves. We apply research on the ‘tip of the stem’ to achieve this in therapy – looking at what has contributed to extraordinary success and fulfillment. 

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a powerful skill that can transform various aspects of your life. It involves paying attention in the present moment, without judgment, allowing for greater self-awareness, stronger relationships, and improved focus.

Through training and practice, you can increase awareness of challenging thoughts and feelings without being overwhelmed by them. As a result, you can stay focused and manage your reactions effectively in stressful situations.

Studies have also shown mindfulness to be particularly helpful in preventing setbacks for those who've already made progress in therapy. To help you "lock in" your gains, we often incorporate mindfulness practices into treatment plans.

Our team of skilled therapists are trained to teach mindfulness, and we even offer a dedicated class for both beginners and intermediate meditators.

Psychopharmacology

Medication is an additional intervention that can be integrated into treatm sent. As psychiatrists, we have expertise in psychopharmacology, in particular for the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, depression, and other psychiatric symptoms. Through a holistic approach to wellness, we view each patient as a whole rather than a single symptom to be treated.

Medication can often be helpful in ‘taking the edge off” and getting “unstuck.” Neuroimaging studies and clinical trials have found that medications, such as serotonin selective reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can induce plasticity in neural networks that allow for greater efficacy and progress in therapy.

If medication could be beneficial for your treatment plan, we can discuss options with you and provide ongoing management. The goal is to optimize your overall well-being by integrating medication with therapy.
